Letter from the Principal
Welcome to the 2010 – 2011 school year at St.Peter’s Catholic School! The faculty, staff, maintenance employees and volunteers have been working tirelessly throughout the summer. Carpets have been cleaned, energy efficient lighting has been installed, the security system was upgraded, the guidance office was painted and the library has been transformed! Yet, it was not complete until the children were back in the classrooms!
We are thrilled to have 21 new families to the school and are pleased to start the year with an enrollment of 108 students.
Our academic program continues to grow with many exciting new initiatives taking place this year. We will be collaborating with the Columbia Conservatory of Dance. Each week our students in grades 1 – 6 will be attending a ‘Strength and Movement’ class at the Conservatory.
We continue as a lab school for the University of South Carolina’s School of Music and we look forward to collaborating with the Department of Exercise Science in the Arnold School of Public Health at USC.
Our 5th grade class will be returning to McIntire Air Force Base for the STARBASE program and the 6th grade will be participating in the Barrier Island outdoor educational program the beginning of November.
The first day back for the teachers was spent in an In-Service training on Differentiated Instruction. All left enthused with ideas they were planning to implement right away. On August 23rd the faculty gathered for Mass where our Pastor, Msgr. Lehocky spoke eloquently about the purpose of Catholic education and offered a blessing for us, the families and students of St.Peter’s.
Our ‘Back-to-School’ Open House is scheduled for Tuesday, August 24th at 6:00pm. We will start in Neglia Hall and then move to the school where the teachers will make their presentations. This is a very important night during which much information will be given. Please make every effort to attend.
Please know that all of us here at St.Peter’s Catholic School appreciate the trust you have placed with us as teachers of your children. It is an honor and a privilege to be a part of your child’s intellectual, physical, emotional, and most importantly, spiritual development. We ask for God’s guidance and strength to give us wisdom, patience, perseverance and joy!
